last weekend, adam and i decided we were long over due for a family fun night. (like a year overdue...)

adam sprung the idea on the girls and they were thrilled.

we grabbed a coupon out of our coupon book and off we went.

i always forget how much fun bowling is with the kids.  or with anyone really.

i truly stink at it, but i'm good with that.  it's just fun.  

anne just KNEW she won second place.

we let it go.  really, who cares.

she was pleased with her number...

adam smoked us all...

he was really pleased with himself.

i had already started with a toothache so i really could have cared less who won.

BUT 

anne says-mommy?

me-yes.

a-is it hard to be a mommy?

me-no, well, yes, well, i guess it just depends.  but it is good most of the time, why?

a-because it just seems like moms always lose! 

me-HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA

a-i mean, you lose at candyland, checkers, flipover, guess who...and you always go last.  and sometimes you even give us what you were eating.  

me-well, it's okay. it's just being a mom.

a-oh.

then we went to a fun little joint called happy joes.  the girls love it there.  anne had a blast playing the quarter games.  we won 200 tickets total.  anne even got to drink SPRITE. (big deal in our house...)

i said, i didn't have it with me.  it was in the car.

she says, but we gotta get a picture of this!  i have 100 tickets, a SPRITE and PIZZA we gotta take a picture of the best night EVER.  

too cute.

wish everyday could be a family fun night...but then the family fun nights wouldn't be as fun, right?

wonderful day for a walk...

Yesterday was The Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Our team raised close to $3,500! With 30+walkers. Last year we raised just a smidge over $600.00 with a team of whopping size of 4! The goal I set for our team this day last year was a team of 20 and $1,000! WOWSERS! I would say we met that goal!

I can't thank the people that donated, walked, and, prayed for the walk enough! We are so touched by everyone's generous support!

It was a beautiful day~the weather was perfect, the company was even better!

P.S. don't you think she deserves a Super Woman cape? Traveling 1/2 way across the country with a 3 year old and 6 month old? I have a hard enough time keeping track of my purse AND carry on when I go on a plane! :)

wedding prep.

annie, my cousin, is getting married.
in just a few weeks!
it's so exciting. we have a very tiny family, she is my only female cousin-so it is a big deal.
i can't wait. plus anne clara is the flower girl!
i love weddings. susan is coming in town, ohhhhhhh-i can't wait!
the drama, the beauty, the love, the memories...it's so great!
today, we got together and made the favors. it was very productive and a great time. we laughed, and worked, and ate, and worked, and laughed, and worked, got teary over music/memories, and worked....it was great! :)
really looking forward to the big day!

p.s. mom is reminding me of how big of bridezilla's both susan and i were-suz, how about we remind mommma how big of a momzilla-she was!? WE LOVE YOU MOM! (mom and dad married BOTH their girls off 7 months apart-almost to the DAY!-she had the right!)

hot potato

holy moly this week has been H-O-T!
last saturday anne had a class at the zoo. it was a beautiful day, but we couldn't stay and look around so i promised her that the next class we would make a day of it. just her and i.

fast forward. tuesday came. it was decent weather, we had been kind of restless with our normal routine of pool etc. so we headed to grants farm. it was fine. not terribly hot. not terribly croweded. girls were perfect. it was fun.i was looking forward to wednesday. before bed, check the weather. heat advisory. 115 degree heat indicies.

nice. i am going to die.

and my daughter will watch.
we got up. packed frozen wash cloths and water bottles in the cooler, packed the camera and off we went for our day at the zoo.
it was hot. but do-able. we rode the train, checked out the animals in the houses and had another great day 'zoo school.'.

glad we went.

Playdough...

There is nothing as great as playdough.

I love playdough.
I love the feel, the smell, the therapy behind playing with playdough!
I love how quiet my kids are when they have playdough.
We have not had playdough for awhile.
This weekend the weather has been utterly disgusting, so I thought it was time to bust out the tried and true homemade playdough recipe.
Both girls had a part in making a batch.
They played for hours-literally, in the morning and then again before dinner. Amazing how simple it is to make and how much fun they have.

Here's the recipe...
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
2 tsp food coloring (I just squirt it in there...2 tsp seems like an awful lot)
1 Tbsp vegetable oil (I think mom's recipe uses baby oil)
1 cup water
Mix it all together-stir over medium heat for about 5 minutes...its a gross consistency but go with it.
When it forms into a ball in the center of the pot, turn it off and let it cool. Knead several times on a floured surface.
Store in an airtight container.

weekend plans...

This weekend marks a four day weekend. Our household is smothering ourselves in r.e.l.a.x.a.t.i.o.n. I think that is a good thing from time to time.
Adam and I LOVE cooking, so we are focusing on trying some new cookbooks we have given each other.
I am attempting to add some items to our spring wardrobe. (via my new friend 'ricky' the sewing machine! ;))
I hope its all we hope for! :)

Birthdays...

February birthdays have come to a close. Adam and his brother Aaron both celebrated their birthdays this past week. We had our family party at Maw-maws house. The kids had a blast.

Sausage Fest...

*disclaimer, if you don't like meat, or meat processing...you have come the wrong post today.*

Okay, in the beginning of the month, Adam went Boar hunting in Texas. They successfully bagged several large hogs.
The meat was brought home in large packages and placed directly into our already bulging deep freeze.
I never really asked what exactly we would be doing with the meat until early last week. In casual conversation I asked Adam what we were going to do with ALL THAT PIG MEAT?! He smiled and said, 'make bratwurst....this weekend.'
NICE!

And that my friends is what we did.
It was messy, tough, and kind of disgusting, but oddly enjoyable all at the same time.
I told you we aren't really text book city folk, we just pretend to be on t.v.! :)
