Elf on the Shelf

Do you have one of these?
Several of my coworkers turned me onto the idea last year.
At first I was skeptical. But, I sent my momma out to find the Elf for our Shelf, and it works like.a.champ.
His name is Tyler. He is in a new spot each time we wake up. He dutifully reports to St. Nick how we all are doing with chores, behavior, attitude, and the like.
If you don't have one, check it out here, no one is too old for a creepy Elf to be watching them like a hawk!

counting it down...

No denying it.

The girls are excited about Christmas.

We have an Advent calendar in nearly every room.

Unfortunatly, Kate doesn't quite get the idea of time as clearly as Anne. Each day is a near meltdown explaining you can only open ONE door on the house. Hilarious! :)

Tree...DONE!

I recruited my parents to help the girls and I get our tree.

Even though I had this pictured, it was a blast. Lots of laughing!

It was absolutly f.r.e.e.z.i.n.g. cold, but we made it.

Tree is up and looking good!

dreams and nightmares

So Friday the plan for the weekend was:
Drive to Christmas tree farm.
Cut down perfect tree.
Enjoy hot chocolate and giggles.
Come home.
Decorate tree.
Enjoy tree.
Go to Birthday party at Bounce U.
Get rid of headache from 20 5 year olds jumping in bouncing things.
Meet friends for dinner.
Enjoy.

This is what it turned into:
Husband waking up at 12am sick as a dog.
I mean sick.
Me running around in the middle of the night finding towels, spraying things, getting trashcans, holding my ears shut, checking on him, trying to sleep, listening to barf, trying to help him go to sleep, spraying more things, trip to gas station at 4am for 7-up pretzels, and gatorade.
Morning comes.
Cancel plans for dinner, find someone to watch Kate while Anne and I were at the party, call neighbor to help lift deer carcass in Adam's car (did I forget to mention he shot a deer Friday night prior to feeling ill-which means it was left in the garage), talk to inlaws about where/how/who was going to get the deer to where it needed to go, console girls that we weren't going to be going to the Christmas tree farm...Spray more, laundry.

That's how it has gone. Hoping to put up a parking lot tree today and get on with it. Things look as if we are heading in the right direction.
Hope your weekend was dreamy! :)

Thanksgiving. A little late.

So I have been late getting this entry going.
No excuse.
Just late.
I think because my pictures are weird. But, while they are weird and not very Norman Rockwell like. It was Thanksgiving.
Filled with pies that burned (4 to be exact), sleepy relatives, and fun little cookies that the girls and I made.
Weird pictures or not, it was a GREAT Thanksgiving.
