a little science never hurts. :)

When we came back from vacation and I was convelesing on the couch all day everyday...the girls would watch tv. (sigh...a lot.) They were sooo excited to tell me about the Science Center having an Mummy/Egypt exhibit.  Anne was over the top about it...then quickly realized I couldn't go anytime soon.  I was determined to get there. Anne loves stuff that is Science centered.  And I love that she loves different things.  I just wasn't too sure how that was going to work out this summer.
My cousin, Annie (also known by the girls as, Big Annie) and I talked about the Science Center at the Fourth of July.  She wanted to go too.  So we got together a date and planned to go.
We had a great time.  It was crowded, and slightly overwhelming, and honestly exhausting.  Which usually equals a great time in the eyes of a kid...
Glad we could go, and super glad Big Annie was with us!

a horse is a horse...

caught this one. love.  just love.

i just love this photo.  it's a tender moment.  i could almost frame it. for real.

two words. hot. shot.

as we left for the event at the friends house...anne said. 'hey kate, you riding a horse?' kate said quickly....'nope'  ha.

God love her....she did this all by herself.  boots, belt, totally dressed for the night. :)  we so wanted to be 'by her' but the friends said...'she will be fine'....and i think they were right.

little blurry...but the girls were soo excited to ride in the dark.

the daddy's....
of course of course...
we went to a friend of adam's house this past friday night.
i was not excited about going. (because horses scare me a little....well. actually, a lot.)
they have horses. and chickens. and...wait for it...a GOAT.
the family encouraged us to bring our boots, and wear old clothes.
oh boy i thought.
well, as it usually  happens.  we had the best time.
BOTH girls rode a horse.  not only rode it but rode it all.night.long.
it was so neat to see them go from super skiddish, to chasing chickens in the barn after dark.
anne said in a whisper voice....'the goat rammed me, but its okay, i think it likes me.'
what the what????
i just smiled.
it was a very late night.  but a great time had by all.
both girls woke this morning with one question...
'when can we go back???'

spot on

so lately..i have been thinking about how i feel like i have found a spot in the world of motherhood.  the girls are growing.  i can carry a purse, or a clutch for that matter, no sippy cups, no diapers, no extra clothes.  maybe a band aid that's it.  the girls can play in the yard, by themselves, they can swim, by themselves, dress themselves, and potty themselves.  i am feeling like I am more of a facilitator, a supervisor, and i'm not sure about this.  it's going a little too fast for me....and then my sister posted something on facebook and i took a minute to read what she linked...
and
this was spotted
it was perfectly written...just beautiful.
it's not always easy, this stage, but i don't think there is any one phase that is just a piece of cake....but as our infamous family babysitter, debbie once told me, in her foyer, as i was bleary eyed and weepy about anne growing...'sara, each stage you are in is the best at the time, but the next one is even better'...

p.s. thanks suz for sharing this on facebook. :)

numbered days...

so. this summer has been long.  it really  has.  by the calendar.  my last day teaching was may 15 (or something like that.)  my first day back is may 9th.  that is just a hair shy of being three full months.  haven't ever had that long of a break in all my years of teaching.

it has been good.  due to the foot saga, the month of june and half of july was slow as molasses.
but guess what? i walked 1/3 mile trail today-things are started to coming along.
guess what else that means? time has started f.l.y.i.n.g.
dang it.
kate will start kindergarten.  who has my tissues?
and anne will begin third grade.  what in the heck????
my school will have a new principal. anne's teacher options for third grade are both new.
neither of those things are bad.  but they are just unknowns.  and i'm not a fan of that.
i'm hoping to suck up the next 2 1/2 weeks and love it all.

kids make it monday update...

last monday, i reported that the girls were going to start cooking on mondays.
they made homemade meatballs with spaghetti.
they completed the whole meal.  salad and all.
it was delicious.  i am not a huge meatball eater-and i gave it two thumbs up.
they were so cute.
today is monday.  we are getting the menu ready.
