dance

this weekend was busy.
it was dance recital weekend.
we are involved in a VERY low key dance class.
which i am thankful for.
i could NOT handle competitions, multi night dance recitals, 200 dollar costumes.
my girls would simply miss out.

anne is a dance that concentrates....no time for smiles.

kate spent a lot of time making sure the others were doing what she was doing....

high fives!

she was so excited she could hardly handle herself.

someone once said. 'i think you and adam look alike'. i was appalled.  i look at this picture and say. "i think adam and i look alike."  gasp.  we have been together too long!
i'm glad we have our puny little class with the sweet little recital.

still learning....

so the last post was about the internet photog class.
this post is too.
each week we are invited on a 'treasure hunt'.  i thought it was a little silly at first.  now i think it's fun.
there are 6-10 different prompts to pick from.
today i chose...
a mess.
a riot of color (isn't that fun to say?)
and something you love.
this is what i snapped.
a mess

a mess

riot of color

riot of color

my girls....in the rearview mirror.  that's what i love.

learnin'

so today, i started an on line photography course.
i'm so excited.
each day is something new for 6 weeks ( i think).
it is reminding me how much i love to use my camera.
today's assignment was to use the 'magic hour' of light.  (the hour before sunset)
it's a beautiful kind of light.  today was chilly, so i didn't stay out long.
here is what i got.  nothing great.  but i thought they were fun.
love taking pictures of the late day sun through things....albeit a little rough on the retinas.  YIKES!

sweet, sweet honeysuckle

to be 7 again....

just thought it was fun. and simple.

again. to be 7....

eggs

the saturday before easter is otherwise known as egg decorating day.
adam and i switched cars today for mulch reasons.
he took my car to the office and left me with his.  that's fine.  it was filled with mulch.  i spread it all. no big deal.
but. he had my car. which had my camera.
we can't dye eggs without my camera.
so i called adam.  at the office.  i said, 'call right back and say that you wanted to watch the girls dye eggs.'....this is what he says....'uhhhhh....' i said, you know you want to.  throw me a life vest would you?'  he caught on.  and called right back.  even threw in the key word...nap.  love him sometimes.

so.  he came home.  i got my camera.  and we dyed eggs...while he mowed the lawn. (he was going to do it tomorrow but i said, 'we eat at 5pm most folks eat at 12 or 1pm.  mow the grass tonight.)  he did.  and now i don't have to worry about easter eggs ending up in our lawn, that weren't ours. (because they were chucked at adam while the families were trying to enjoy a quiet easter dinner)

here are the pictures.  as they are.  no editing. just absolute inncoence.  some of them are just too much.  kate was so into it this year.  anne, was ticked. most of the time for one reason or another..that's life.  i have 2 girls.  at some point during the day someone is mad about something.  and i'm okay with that.

guess what?  my favorite!

~chat soon.
after looking at the pictures again...anne didn't show her cranky-ness in the pictures as much as i had thought.  she has quite a picture of how things are supposed to turn out.  major disappointment for her, if it doesn't match the good ol' mental picture....

a little bit of awkward...

so. two weeks ago. i got an email.  my principal told me i was a nominee for teacher of the year for our building.  it is a fairly new thing.  each building has a nominee.  then the nominee fills out a huge questionnaire and sends it to central office for them to decide the district teacher of the year.  i worked hard on the questions for the initial process.  that was the week that kate  had been sick, adam had been sick, and i was willing my sickness away.  i stayed up late.  wrote and re-wrote my answers.  i didn't tell a soul.  except adam and my mom and sister that i had been nominated.  no one at work, i mean.  not even my closest of close.  i didn't want to have to say...guess what.  i didn't get it.  so i just didn't say.  it was super hard.  it's a huge honor just for someone to write a persons name on the form, let a lone to fill out the quite intimidating information and write an essay.  but someone did.  for me.  wow.

well, monday.  i got another email.  it said.  TOY.  i thought...a toy?  weird.  it was from my principal.  i opened it and it said.  CONGRATULATIONS.  i said to myself....WHAT THE WHAT?  i read it outloud.  my kids kept on working, and i read it again.  i won.  i won teacher of the year for my building.  holy moly.  holy  moly. holy moly.  adam was out of town.  i sent him a text message.  no response.  i emailed him.  nothing.  he had no reception.  so it is not his fault.  i still couldn't say anything to anyone.  i needed the principal to say it.  he did.  and then i got nervous, and red, and sweaty, and wished it would all just go away.  i don't do well with recgonition.  i simply go to work, do my job, make sure the kids are given avenues to succeed, and go home.  it's pretty easy.  sometimes.  other times gut wretching, unappreciated, painful, and gray hair making...but in the end....i look back and say DANG!  they got IT!

so tonight.  i have to work on a draft of the information i have to give to the district.  i know, or have a strong feeling, i won't received the district teacher of the year.  that is fine with me.  i never in my wildest dreams thought i would ever be nominated, let alone receive the teacher of the year award.  it's not anything super fancy, no money, no stipend, just a nice plaque, a sit down dinner, and the idea that someone sat down and thought....i think this lady (whoever it may be) is doing something good.

it sounds stupid...but this is one of the biggest deals that has ever happened to me in my career.  this week has been such a run of the mill week, that it doesn't really feel special or different.  but when the day is done, the lights are out, the last bath has been given...i kind of tear up and think. dang.  God has blessed me.  He has given me a road to be rejuvenated in my career, He has given me a great support system of co-workers, friends, and family that help me.  And for that.  I say THANK YOU!  I couldn't have done any of it without Him and THEM!

holy land adventure....

for the past several years we have attended the holy land adventure at our church.
it seriously is the girls' favorite event at church (besides vbs, and every other sunday service.)  we went after the easter egg hunt....they were so excited.
i didn't take a lot of pictures but they had so much fun.
