the scoop-part 1

so we left for the smokies mountains. neither adam or myself had ever been there. i had no idea what to expect. i heard mixed reviews but i am a glass half full kind of gal so was leaning more on the side of good then bad.
we drove for what seemed like f.o.r.e.v.e.r. finally arrived to gatlinburg, tn. it was crowded, traffic jammed, and busy. bummer. there were lots of flashing signs for shows, buffetts, and other tourist attractions. not overly impressed so far.
we decided to go ahead and find the cabin and get situatiated.
the drive toward the cabin was beautiful. windy, curvy, kind of throwy-upy, but beautiful all in the same. we finally, after several arguments with the g.p.s. arrived at our cabin.
it was perfect. secluded, woodsy, decorated perfectly, kid friendly. awesome.
okay, good. we'll be fine here.
we decided we better head back down the mountain to the grocery store before we have major kid monsters on our hands...
this is where things get a little nuts.
we head back down the mountain. kind of holding on for dear life. the car still loaded to the gills...we make it. good.
all of the sudden, smoke is billowing from the front of the car, anne is yelling that something smells and i am chanting 'the car is smoking, the car is smoking, the car is smoking'. adam pulls the rig
over to find the brakes.are.burning. NICE. he only cussed once. i was proud.
we sat for a second. trying not to panic too much.
adam made the call that we should continue onto the store. it was the brakes, nothing that had to do with the gauges and we will reasses when we get there.
okay fine.
we did. brakes cooled. smell passed. we are good.
long story short. too much pressure on the brakes driving very steep roads. no big deal.
very big deal. it was scary. adam was not happy. we were on foreign territory.
the trip so far was a mess.
two days later, adam decides we have to get new brakes or at least have them looked at...takes it to the local brake guy. he fixes it. everything is back to normal.
good.
we spend the afternoon at the pool. try to regain normalcy or our brains. head to outlet mall.
the needles on the dash start thrashing around. they do that sometimes. like it has a twitch or something. wierd, i know.
this time, they won't stop.
the rpm needle ends up sticking to the far right. when we get to the mall, adam can't put the car in park because the rmp needle is blocking it. he turns the engine off, thinking the needle might move. wrong. now we can't turn the car on because it isn't in park.
what the WHAT?
anne gets nervous because she is hearing us whisper in the tone that makes her nervous. ;)
she starts to think that the car will be broken forever and has to poop.
nice.
so i unload the girls. head to the bathroom. adam finds us. he fixed it. he broke the gear needle so now it moves, but you can't see where it is going...so you have to count and feel.
this is great.
we bought a few things. went back to the house. had dinner. went to bed.
the final day was upon us.
we headed into town for a tram ride into the mountains.
adam was very stressed due to the car issues. he had a nervous stomach...use your imaginiation here.
we forgot that the van time was not eastern time zone so we MISSED THE STINKING TRAM.
by this time, i can't help it. i'm crying. adam is not happy. and anne is in overdrive of questions.
we head back toward the cabin.
adam starts to feel better. we get back in control. decide to head to the smokie national park in our vehicle.
turned out to be THE BEST PART OF THE TRIP.
when we go back, that will be where we spend most of our time.
the trip was awesome.
the hiccups during the trip were a little rough-but we made it through and had a great time...
part 2 tomorrow!
